 EXCEL stands for EXercise and Common-Sense Eating for Life – a principle that Karen holds near and dear to her heart. “Eat real foods and move your body” has been, and continues to be, the basic tenet of EXCEL. A common “theme” of EXCEL is to promote “real women with real bodies” rather than the unrealistic ideal body images prevalent in the media. To that end, Karen and her staff often joke to their clients that “no thong leotards are allowed”. EXCEL was also established to motivate, educate, and train adults, kids, and teens about nutrition, exercise, and wellness and to provide an opportunity for all persons to exercise and become healthier regardless of age or ability.

Finding peace with food – and with our lives – takes EXCELs basic belief system of eating real foods and moving your body to the next level by incorporating the mind-body connection. Karen believes that when we experience peace in our everyday lives, peace with our food – and thus with our weight – transpires. With her extensive background, Karen successfully takes a holistic approach to weight loss and wellness through nutrition, exercise, and mind-body techniques not often found in one clinic.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself.

I have always been overweight. I found out recently that as a baby, my mother fed me
condensed milk as my main source of food - apparently it was the done thing in those days. No wonder I have such a sweet tooth now, and have spent half my life sitting in a dentist’s chair!

Through the years I have tried just about every weight loss programme out there. I lost weight on most of them, but usually I’d reach my goal weight, and the pounds would start to pile back on. I was caught up in the nightmare of yo-yo dieting - the weight would come off, then it would go back on again, then off, then on again, and so it would go!

In my early thirties, I had an incredibly stressful few years, and was consequently
diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Adrenal Burnout. I was also a single parent, and I needed to get well. But many of the stress factors were still there. During this time, exercising was difficult because of the tiredness; cooking was mostly convenience foods because that was easiest; and the weight piled on. And on! And on!

Even though I was a trained scientist, I had never really thought to look into the science
behind all the different diets I was trying. I would hear about a plan that a friend had tried, and I’d be straight in.  But when I found out about the Slender Life Programme, I knew that it was going to be different. From a scientific point of view, this programme just made so much sense. And as you’ll see, it’s not something that you’ll have heard of before.

So now I needed to see if the programme was going to work for me! The theory looked good, but I have to tell you that in practise it has been nothing short of life changing! It has been the easiest weight loss programme I have ever followed. And the results have been nothing short of amazing! As I write this in August of 2011, I have lost 37kg, and for the first time in my life, I have total confidence that I will actually make it!

The weight comes off from all the right places - it’s amazing how the body seems to know just where to take it from. And best of all, even after being overweight all my life, I have no saggy skin. The skin seems to be slowly shrinking as the fat disappears. It has to be seen to be believed! I now I know for sure that this is the last and only weight loss programme that I will ever need. 

The other thing that I really like about this programme is that it is based on many of the 
natural health principles that I have come to love and trust over the years. Through all the years of regaining my health, I discovered some principles that not only seemed to make a lot of sense, but that actually worked. I began the journey back to health with a certain amount of scepticism, (and rightly so, I found out, because there are a lot of things that don’t meet expectations). But some things did work, and as I put these into practise my health began to improve.

The main things that worked for me were to flood the body with the nutrition you just can’t get from your food anymore; to remove all toxic products from my bathroom, kitchen and laundry; to get my thyroid and adrenals functioning properly, and lastly to cleanse the colon and deal to the parasites!

So when it came time to put this programme together, it made sense to incorporate some of those things that I knew from personal experience led to better health. Ultimately, I want this to be not just a weight loss plan, but a step towards a new life filled with vitality and vigour.

This programme has changed my life, and I know it will do the same for you.
